Mike Regan (Pierce Brosnan) is an aerospace industrialist trying to save his company with Omni—a new Uber-like app that enables private jet owners to hire out their planes—in this trivial techno-thriller. Despite his sophistication and lofty perch in the business world, Regan is a technophobe who needs the help of his wife Rose (Anna Friel) just to operate the coffeemaker. So when a PowerPoint presentation to investors suddenly fails, his all-important Omni demonstration is saved by a nerdy IT temp, Ed Porter (James Frecheville). Grateful, Regan suggests that Porter should come to his home to fix the Wi-Fi, as the complicated surveillance systems in his ultra-modern “smart house” are awesome but awful when they go awry. “I like my privacy,” Regan explains, offering Porter a drink. “Privacy's dead,” Porter counters, adding, “Privacy isn't a right. It's a privilege.” While exploring the premises, Porter eyeballs Regan's pretty 17-year-old daughter Kaitlyn (Stefanie Scott), crossing unspoken employer/employee social boundaries. But this is not surprising since Porter is a creepy psychopath whose shady NSA background enables him to quickly acquire all of the codes he needs to terrorize the gullible Regan family. Directed by John Moore, this would-be-sinister cyber-stalker story is plodding and all too predictable. Not recommended. [Note: DVD/Blu-ray extras include a behind-the-scenes featurette (8 min.), a photo gallery, and trailers. Bottom line: a small extras package for a disappointing thriller.] (S. Granger)
