The pro-life and pro-choice activists continue to wage war over the issue of abortion, but If These Walls Could Talk focuses on the women behind the decision and the choices they make--for better or worse. The film explores the lives of three women from three eras who shared the same house and the same problem. In the ‘50s, a widowed nurse (Demi Moore) becomes pregnant from her late husband's brother and must decide whether to risk life or shame. In the '70s, a mother (Sissy Spacek) must choose between a life-long dream or another addition to her already-large family. In the '90s, a college student (Anne Heche) is torn between opposing activists and learns a lot from a brave doctor (Cher). Sensitive, powerful and tragic, this is one of the most provocative and responsible feature films to tackle the abortion issue. Highly recommended. (L. Russo)
