The nutty fragrance of a less racy 1960s sex farce hangs in the air of this honeymoon-gone-wrong comedy, starring Brittany Murphy (8 Mile) and Ashton Kutcher (That '70s Show) as giddy-in-love newlyweds prevented from consummating their marriage by a screwball series of mishaps. Carnal frustration soon frays the couple's last nerves, but Just Married fails to adequately sow the seeds of annoyance that bring about their big fight: when they finally blow up and turn into amusingly petty love-hate enemies, it has far more to do with where director Shawn Levy is in the script than with where Murphy and Kutcher are in their relationship. But sweetly sexy, supremely underrated Murphy and dumb-funny delight Kutcher breathe such spontaneity and infectious fun into their many predicaments that the amusing concept, enjoyable performances, and well-written, often overlapping, dialogue keep the movie afloat. A strong optional purchase. (R. Blackwelder)
