John Rubino's charming indie film set in Brooklyn--home of Lotto fever, crack dealers, and some people with good hearts despite all the lost lives and poverty--follows the budding love affair between Hank, a high school senior who works at a local liquor store, avoiding easy drug money, and next-door neighbor Joy, who lives with her aunt Flo. While Hank and Joy explore first love, Hank's dad and Flo--who have both been around the block a few times--begin their own autumn romance. A small film with a big heart, Lotto Land is warmly recommended. (R. Pitman)
