Born in 1915 in Winnipeg, Pearl Palmason, a Canadian violinist of some renown (though perhaps not that well known to U.S. fans of classical music), enjoyed a trailblazing career, both as a female solo artist and as a member of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in the 1940s. Still spry at 85, the witty and engaging Palmason, is definitely the best thing happening in this brief video, as--unfortunately--filmmaker Christopher Valley Ban gives us absolutely no sense of Palmason's relative prestige, nor incorporates any period recordings that might give viewers a sense of her virtuosity. Short on background--particularly aural samples--this is not a necessary purchase. Aud: H, C, P. (P. Van Vleck)

As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
