An offbeat romantic comedy that won't induce nausea, Pie in the Sky delicately balances a love story with quirky characters. Following the life-long, on-and-off relationship between wannabe radio traffic reporter Charlie (Josh Charles) and an artsy dancer (Anne Heche), the film explores both the fragile nature of first love and the unrelenting persistence of fate. Interesting, likable characters, pretty photography, and charming performances help elevate this film above the standard Hollywood trifle. It doesn't break any rules or challenge convention, but it's a refreshing change of pace. Optional. (L. Russo)
