It's not a wonderful life. On Christmas Eve, a housewife's "euphoria attack" is interrupted by her conscience-stricken husband, who tearfully informs her that he has taken a contract out on her life and that she has five minutes to escape. So begins this surreal comic odyssey based on the play, and adapted for the screen, by Craig Lucas, author of Prelude to a Kiss. Brimming with eccentric characters and absurd incidents that may leave you cold, but a showcase for Mia Farrow, if you like that sort of thing (and critics did). An optional purchase. (K. Benson)
