Once you get over the hump of seeing Shakespeare's classic play transplanted to 1930's England, you will be thrilled by this audacious lean and mean reinterpretation of the Bard's timeless story of power and political intrigue. Sir Ian McKellan gives a virtuoso performance as the fascist Richard, with Annette Bening as Queen Elizabeth, whom Richard takes as his bride after murdering her husband. Highly recommended. (K. Benson)
