Wildlife photographer Bill Grunkemeyer introduces this compilation of film clips of nearly 100 different animals found in the Rocky Mts. Arranged by region, the video offers brief introductions to the habitat followed by wildlife footage (numbers appear in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen, which are keyed to a list of animals included with the video). The overlaid narration seems rather serendipitous: remarks about the sage grouse (no. 3) are followed by silence until one gets to the pronghorn antelope (no. 16). Too, about 1/5th of an already short program is devoted to introducing Grunko Films and encouraging viewers to call for a catalog. If the program were more substantive to begin with--as many of the individual programs in the Grunko line are--this wouldn't be a problem. Here the offering is so slim that one can't be sure whether the content or the come-on is the main reason for its existence. Not a necessary purchase. (R. Pitman)

As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
