Scooby-Doo mania has hit with a vengeance, thanks to the recent theatrical release (starring Freddie Prinze, Jr. and Matthew Lillard), so it's no surprise that classic episodes of the long-running, canine-antic-filled cartoon series are re-surfacing. Scooby-Doo's Original Mysteries opens with the 1969 series pilot "What a Night for a Knight," in which Scooby and Shaggy's strange discovery of a seemingly abandoned suit of armor eventually leads to a wild and wooly chase through a museum before the gang stumbles onto the truth and successfully solves the mystery. Many of the now conventional elements of Scooby-Doo escapades are featured in the initial episode, including Scooby and Shaggy's scared retreats, the bribing of Scooby with Scooby snacks, and the memorable cry: "Zoinks!" The other four episodes compiled here are: "Hassle in the Castle," "A Clue for Scooby-Doo," "Mine Your Own Business," and "Decoy for a Dognapper." The DVD release also features a music video, a "Scooby Challenge" quiz, four song samples, and recipes (yes, you'll finally find out how to make Scooby snacks!). Sure to be popular, this is definitely recommended. Also available at the same prices: Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School, Scooby-Doo Goes Hollywood, and Scooby-Doo's Creepiest Capers. Aud: P. (J. Williams)
