An amateur-looking program, this 1977 "house" concert, featuring vocalist Manhapara Devesa Ramanathan (1923-1984), is literally filmed in someone's backyard garden. Sung in Sanskrit and Telugu, the seven selections performed on the program here are backed by a coterie of sparrows and crows, who are a sometimes the loudest "instrument" in the piece, and b have little musical sense. In short, this is not an optimum recording of what would have otherwise been a pleasant South Indian concert. Not recommended. (R. Pitman)
