Is this trip really necessary? After Lassie, Andre, Black Beauty, etc., there aren't that many cinematic species left with which a child can emotionally bond. Pandas, as cute and irresistible as they come, are an inspired subject, but the rest is pure formula. A young boy travels to China to visit his estranged father, who is preoccupied with keeping open his endangered panda reserve. Once there, he struggles to save a panda cub from poachers. Kids may go for it, but don't expect panda-monium. (D. Liebenson)

As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
