With its surreal atmosphere and trashed sets, The Crow: City of Angels is like a pseudo-spiritual rock video. With the help of a psychic tattoo artist (Mia Kirshner), a murdered father (Vincent Perez) returns from the dead to seek vengeance. Director Tim Pope tries to get by on the film's "cool" trappings, but the smoke-filled skies, dominatrix fashion gear, and a hipster soundtrack can't make up for the film's pathetic script and bad acting. Kirshner doesn't have the edge this kind of film requires, and she seems more like window-dressing than an integral part of the movie. This sequel is for the birds. (L. Russo)
