"There is not enough blood in all the world to make these demons stop drinking." The creatures in question are not some B-movie vampires, but two lions who made an all-you-can-eat buffet out of workers building a bridge in 1896 Africa. Michael Douglas, decked out in his Banana Republics, is a hoot as Remington, a legendary hunter ("I am the devil," he snarls) recruited to kill the insatiable beasts. Val Kilmer is more grounded as Col. John Patterson, the "fine Irish gentleman and brilliant engineer" on whose memoirs this incredible true story is based. Not as campy as Congo, but good for some "Jaws-in-the-jungle" thrills, and the scenery is spectacular. A strong optional purchase. (K. Lee Benson)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
