The sci-fi premise of a lone man surviving an apocalyptic disaster has been done before, but not as a romantic comedy. Last man Alan (David Arnott) is a shortish, balding, and chubby anthropologist preserving his experiences on video for posterity (in this case, the possibility of a visiting alien). The frequent taping is also a thin excuse for his rambling monologues delivered straight to the camera. One day he runs into a fellow survivor, the luscious Sarah (Jeri Ryan, Star Trek: Voyager), and only because this schmoe is the last man on Earth, she sleeps with him--at least until another, far cuter, guy eventually turns up and social Darwinism rears its inevitable head. Cute premise, poor execution. Not recommended. (T. Rich)
