The posthumously Oscar nominated Massimo Troisi died within hours of completing this exuberant, full-of-life nominee for Best Picture about a shy postal clerk who delivers the mail to the poet Pablo Neruda (Phillipe Noiret), and asks his advice in matters of the heart. Dually smitten by both the beauty of poetry and a voluptuous Italian beauty, the postman decides to employ the former to win the latter. A wonderfully cinematic billet-doux. Highly recommended. (R. Pitman)
