Writing in VL-9/96, K. Lee Benson said: "After his career-threatening debacle with Hudson Hawk, director Michael Lehmann rebounded with this charming gender-bending version of Cyrano de Bergerac. Janeane Garafalo stars as a successful radio talk show host who is insecure about her looks. When she accepts a blind date with a listener, she recruits her neighbor, beautiful (but also insecure) model Uma Thurman to impersonate her. Undermining the film's message about real beauty being within, Uma gets top billing, but the wry, plain-speaking Garafalo, in her breakout role, is the real star." Although the extras are nil, the video transfer is good and the Dolby Digital 5.1 sound sparkling. Recommended. (R. Pitman)
