As mediocre as a Wrigley's double-mint gum commercial, Fernando Trueba's romantic comedy follows the delectable and devious Art Dodge (Antonio Banderas). He's a con-artist/gallery owner who invents a twin brother in order to seduce two rich sisters (Melanie Griffith and Daryl Hannah). Predictable antics ensue as our hero constantly switches disguises and tries to be different people at the same time and place. Trouble is, even with two personas to play, Banderas' character still doesn't add up to a real human being. Worse, Griffith whines as the dumb wild girl, while Hannah simply sighs as the smart sensitive girl. It's all too much like cookie-cutter filmmaking. Optional. (L. Russo)
