In this typically raunchy Judd Apatow production, Jennifer Aniston stars as Linda, dilettante wife of financial drone George (Paul Rudd), whose company goes under just after the couple splurge on a Manhattan “micro-loft.” Overextended and stressed out, the yuppie pair head for Atlanta to move in with George's boorish, foulmouthed brother (Ken Marino). En route, they stumble upon Elysium, a seemingly idyllic, rural utopia filled with carefree eccentrics who warmly welcome them with doobies and various hallucinogens. Soon they're plunging down the rabbit hole of extreme vegan hippie-dom, although the prospect of free love forces both to re-examine their values—particularly when Elysium's resident guru Seth (Justin Theroux) makes a play for Linda and delectable Eva (Malin Akerman) propositions George. Directed by David Wain, this silly comedy—with much of the humor based on lack of privacy (particularly regards the toilet)—is a so-so romp. Optional. [Note: DVD/Blu-ray extras include a behind-the-scenes featurette (27 min.), "Line-O-Rama" alternate takes (10 min.), an exclusive “Elysium" episode from director David Wain's web series Wainy Days (9 min.), behind-the-scenes segments on "Penis Envy" (8 min.) and "The Elysium Campaign" (6 min.), a gag reel (6 min.), and trailers. Exclusive to the Blu-ray release is a "Bizarro Cut" alternate version of the film with different jokes, as well as bonus DVD, digital, and UltraViolet copies of the film, and the BD-Live function. Bottom line: a solid extras package for a disappointing comedy.] (S. Granger)
