Winner of a CINE Golden Eagle and Silver CINDY award, this finely crafted film tells the poignant story of a 14-year-old adolescent coping with a manic-depressive father whose mood swings are severe: he might be driving around town with a bull horn announcing the amusement park he plans to build, or taking to his bed for days at a time. The film is especially strong in conveying small town ridicule, most notably from the teenage daughter's peers at school, who are vicious on the subject of the family's poverty in addition to the father's outlandish behavior. While this film would be good to use with teenagers contending with dysfunctional families, the high price puts it out of the range of most libraries. It would be much more useful in a clinical or counseling setting. Recommended for those agencies. Aud: H, P. (C. Dratch-Kovler)
