16-year-old media tycoons Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen star in Winning London, an improbable tale that takes the twins to England as part of a fivesome of high school "Model United Nations" competitors from California. Chloe (Mary-Kate), the brains of the operation, focuses on taking top honors at the international conference, while Riley (Ashley) is more interested in a handsome teammate. Complete with outrageous obstacles, encounters with Prince Charming, lessons in cockney slang, and several smarmy Brit jokes ("aren't we Miss Westminster Crabby!"), Winning London will certainly appeal to the target tween audience. Since Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen executive produced this flick, the syrupy, idyllic ending is not surprising, but what is surprising is an incident in which all five group members scuttle around hustling and bribing other U.N. teams for votes--and aren't penalized for cheating! Extras for the DVD version include behind-the-scenes footage and a fashion close-up. Questionable morality aside, this is a strong optional purchase that is sure to be popular. [Note: also newly available, the Olsen twins in Passport to Paris.] (J. Williams)
