Not all cells are microscopic--the largest one is an ostrich's egg! This and other fun cell facts appear in this comprehensive introduction to the structure, types, functions, and organization of cells. Using impressive computer animation, the program takes viewers on a virtual journey through an animal cell, identifying various organelles and their jobs on the way. Topics are clearly divided, and the articulate host does a good job of introducing new concepts--for example, showing a plastic bag of water in a cardboard box to illustrate a plant cell's structure. Interspersed interviews with scientists are, unfortunately, a bit awkward. However, with its emphasis on vocabulary and identification, this video is a good introduction to a science unit on cellular biology. Recommended. A second tape in the series, Cell Functions: A Closer Look, is also available. Aud: I, J, H. (E. Gieschen)
