Let's tick off the preparations for Princess Ashley's big day. Looks like the parents spent hours and hours (and heaven only knows at what cost) decorating the street (with signs and balloons), the yard (sign, balloons and chalk designs on sidewalk), the house and garage (signs, balloons, tinsel and glitter) not to mention most of the inside of the house (streamers, more signs, big framed pictures on the wall wrapped in birthday wrap and bows), a balloon archway, a birthday tree, a princess chair, and a million pink and purple balloons all in a castle motif. I just can't imagine a ‘90s family going to this kind of bother (let alone expense: the costumes alone for mommy and daddy and two sisters would have put a number of viewers over budget from the get). Here, Gwendolyn the Good Fairy (looking like a cross between Jayne Meadows and the good witch Glinda) clutching her poodle puppy Peeper (looking similar, actually), walks us through the many features of a well-planned party, including invitations, refreshments, hats, name tags, goodie bags, magic wands, setting up a gift table with an autograph book, entertainment, games (such as pin the magic wand on the fairy), saying good-byes, and writing thank you notes. Although a bit on the ridiculous side, this inexpensive guide to throwing a birthday party--that would have made Shirley Temple drool--for little princesses is nevertheless recommended (don't tell me that Beverly Hills patrons won't find this useful.)
