Produced primarily for vo-ag students, the first of these two programs, Agricultural Field Equipment is a detailed overview of the most common machines used in the production of field crops. Separated into four areas--tillage, planting, chemical application, and harvesting--the tape shows each piece of equipment in operation, explains its function, and often uses accompanying graphics to demonstrate how the machine actually does its job. Plows, cultivators, air seeders, spreaders, sprayers, balers, and stackers are a few of the wide variety of machines discussed. Viewers are advised at the end of the program to check their local libraries for more information. Finding the Profit in Agriculture, which is titled "Steer Hides & Pigskins" on the tape, is based on a Bill Brady seminar concerning financial statements, cash flow, and net income statements. Using the framing device of Bill Brady driving his cattle to market and wondering if he's going to make a profit, the video flashes back to scenes in which Bill was taught the principles of determining one's profitability. Everyone talks slow and Texan, and simplistic mnemonic devices are used for terms such as "cash flow" (the memory phrase here is "crow fell"). Although the basic information here is pretty solid, frankly, if I were a farmer, I'd object to being spoken to as if I had the I.Q. of dirt. Agricultural Field Equipment is recommended, especially for those areas with heavy agriculture. Finding the Profit in Agriculture is not recommended.
