These three programs, all falling under the general rubric of "health" programs are specifically targeted towards the elementary and junior high school library market--with particular emphasis on junior high. Alcohol: It's Serious Business gives a capsule history of alcohol in America, an overview of the effects of alcohol, and a cautionary look at the rampant disease of alcoholism. Nutrition For You introduces students to the basic principles of nutrition (proteins, carbohydrates, fats, minerals, and vitamins: their types and functions; the four basic food groups which comprise a balanced diet; the importance of adding fiber and calcium to one's diet, while reducing sodium-laden and fatty foods; etc.) As opposed to the other programs, this one features both a male and a female narrator who habitually finish one another's sentences (for some reason, there is an increasing propensity for this absurd and confusing approach to narration in recent videos). Smoking's Not For Winners charts the history of the tobacco trade, discusses the plethora of harmful chemicals found in your average cigarette, and outlines the fatal illnesses which have been linked to smoking during the past quarter of a century. Although none of the programs use especially eye-catching graphics, they are all competently done (just nothing special). Each tape is accompanied by a teacher's manual which contains activity sheets for students to complete (the activity sheets are also referred to in the programs, making them unsuitable for public libraries.) Elementary and junior high school libraries may want to consider these, but they are not necessary purchases. (Available from: Educational Activities, Inc., 1937 Grand Ave., Baldwin, NY 11510.)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
