Hosted by Texas Rangers' manager Bobby Valentine, this excellent how-to video on the hobby of baseball card collecting is as good as an instructional tape can be. Beginning with a brief introduction on the allure and history of baseball card collecting, the program goes on to explain the differences between major sets, update sets, and regional sets of player cards; how distribution patterns have changed over the years (and the effect this has had on pricing); the various vendors involved in card sales-dealers, card shops, and conventions; how to determine a card's value; the different price guides and hobby magazines available to aid the budding collector; and, thank goodness, a continual explanation of the terminology germane to the hobby. Excellent close-ups of the cards, and graphic highlights of key points to remember are used throughout, in a visually appealing way. Credit should also go to Ted Lowe's excellent script and Shawn Hardin's sure direction. Even my wife, who would usually prefer watching the grass grow to sitting through a sports "how-to" video was immediately hooked. Highly recommended.
