Made under the supervision of Oncologist Dawn Mills, M.D., F.A.C.S., An Ounce of Prevention dispels some of the more common myths concerning breast cancer, pointing out that women stand an 89% chance of not getting breast cancer, heredity only accounts for 5-7% of all cases of breast cancer, and close to 90% of lumps in the breast are harmless. Nevertheless, breast cancer is still the 2nd-leading cause of death among women, and regular check-ups, mammograms, and monthly breast self-examinations are important monitoring steps in early detection--and early detection has a nearly 100% success rate of beating the disease. The program counsels viewers on the best times for conducting BSE's and demonstrates the vertical strip, circular, and wedge methods. Libraries without similar fare such as Breast Self-Examination or Every Woman's Guide to Breast Self-Examination (both reviewed in our June 1989 issue), or those looking for a replacement will find this program to be an excellent choice. Highly recommended. (R. Pitman)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
