Prolific author Deepak Chopra, M.D., delivers a long but reasonably interesting lecture on the nature of health and the mind/body relationship. Combining his expertise in Western medicine with the Indian science of healing, Chopra stresses the need to treat the whole person and preaches that the mind exerts great influence over the body. Some of his beliefs, such as the mind's ability to affect aging, may stretch credulity, but he makes a compelling case for his philosophy. A large living room--with an attentive audience on three sides--provides an unusually intimate setting. Chopra exhibits good body language--using his hands for expression, voice rhythmically rising and falling--but this is essentially a talking head format, with (thankfully) varied camera angles providing a little visual variety. Each tape is divided into three twenty-minute segments. Viewing the program one or two segments at a time may be best. Even a charismatic speaker like Chopra who cracks a joke now and then is hard to take for two hours. A decent but non-essential purchase, this is still likely to be very popular in public libraries.
