Using much of the same material these three films provide a good introduction for intermediate and junior high school level children to the subject of adolescence. Boy to Man opens with a set of young boys who are beginning to have questions about the physiological changes that are happening in their bodies. Using live action mixed with animated sequences, the film goes on to explore differences in growth patterns, the onset of acne, the pituitary gland, and the reproductive systems of both the male and the female. Girl to Woman follows the exact same format, but focuses more on female physiology, particularly the menstrual cycle. Then One Year combines footage from both of the others for use in co-educational classroom situations. At the moment, there is precious little on the subject available in the home video price range (this may change as early as the beginning of next year). In fact, Where Did I Come From ?, which does not do nearly the same job as far as detail, is the only low-priced title which comes to mind. Although all three titles are well done, we feel that Then One Year gives you the best buy for your audio- visual dollar. Recommended for larger public and academic libraries. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
