Aimed at experienced watercolorists, Tom Lynch's main emphasis in Capturing Mood and Expression in Watercolor is on teaching viewers how to exaggerate mood in order to achieve expression. In other words, rather than simply engaging in a technical exercise, Lynch firmly believes that the artist should work towards creating paintings that evoke an emotional response. Towards that end, he demonstrates how to achieve beautiful effects with such mundane tools as a razor blade (to rough up the paper's surface), a spray bottle and an electric eraser (to create various lighting effects), and mattes (to bring out the atmosphere of the painting). Watercolor devotees willing to experiment with the various techniques presented here will welcome this solid art instruction video. Part of Lynch's six-volume Watercolor Technique Video Series II, the other titles are: On-Location/Preliminary Color Studies (Parts One & Two), Special Effects in Watercolor (Parts One & Two), and Marketing Your Art. Recommended. Aud: H, C, P. (S. Fisher)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
