Don't become a travel agent just because you want a free trip to Turkey. That's just one indirect message of Careers in Travel. Intended for high school and university libraries, this lackluster video gives the lowdown on the variety of jobs in the travel industry, including job requirements, salaries, and perks. Our host Claudine Dervaes (who owns the company that produced the tape) is well-qualified to pontificate on the nuances of the travel biz, and the video does features some interview footage with travel industry workers, but the talking head format just doesn't fly. While the program covers the ups and downs of jobs in agency and corporate reservation work, and the airline, hotel, and cruise industries, the format makes the viewer long instead for a short article on the subject. As Dervaes notes, Solitaire Publishing also publishes books, making the video a self-perpetuating promotion piece. Decent content but weak delivery makes this one to skip. (A. Laker)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
