Christy Lane's latest repertoire of freestyle dance moves looked so fun and easy to learn that I abandoned the comforts of my massaging recliner chair and got down, got loose, and even--dare I say it--got a wee bit funky. Fancy legwork moves with names like Hot Spot, Mario, Pump, and The Box had me gyrating around my living room floor like a top on amphetamines...until we came to a pair of intricate routines, called Kano and Lockin', which actually required abilities I lack: excellent coordination and a good sense of timing. But I jumped back in with renewed vigor on the New Electric Slide (a dance which easily defeated me last winter at my little brother's wedding), and was bopping along quite nicely until I was thwarted by my dance partners--namely, the coffee table and the futon--who refused to even try the moves. Though very poor instruction for furniture, Christy Lane's Funky Freestyle Dancing is lively instruction for humans who want to strut their stuff on the dance floor (or in a sparsely furnished living room. A companion piece, Christy Lane's More Funky Freestyle Dancing is also available at the same price. Recommended. (R. Pitman)
