Mix red plus green and get...lilac? Teal? Black? Yes! Subtitled "Step by Step Color Mixing Techniques," this is a good introduction for new artists learning about the tricky ways of mixing color. Working first with paints, crafts instructor Sandra Angelo demonstrates how to make a "swatch card" by mixing complimentary colors. This creates a range of hues which can be used to create harmonious effects in pictures. She also shows how to match colored pencils and oil pastels to the paint swatches, and discusses the importance of color value. While Angelo is obviously very talented, a little more scripting and much less ad libbing would have been an improvement (she uses the word "actually" way too many actual times, and apparently abhors silence while she demonstrates). Despite the verbosity, this useful title will be a welcome find for amateur artists. Recommended. Aud: P. (R. Reagan)
