Acrylic painting on absorbent surfaces is a tricky prospect even for the most gifted artist: unless you know what you're doing, problems are certain to arise with colors pooling, dripping, or losing vibrancy. Artist Silva Fox demonstrates the time honored technique of grisaille, a method that uses layers of gray to achieve drama and contrast under the colors. Fox explains the types of paints and brushes necessary for best results, and other supplies to have on hand in case of mistakes and for cleanup, and viewers follow her through a five step process as she paints a scene over tooled leather. Watching the artist's hands as she strokes and scruffs and blots the paint across the surface, viewers get a first-hand up-close look at the "dazzling color" that can be applied to leather. Offering something a little different for the crafts section, this is recommended. Aud: P. (E. Druda)
