“You'll be in school a long time, so you might as well get the most you can out of it!”, says one of the engaging teen hosts of this excellent program geared towards students about to start the high school/college adventure. A wonderfully practical resource, Developing Good Study Skills is divided into four sections: classroom, studying and homework, test preparation, and research. Some lessons cover specific techniques: the “five Rs” of effective note taking (including mnemonic devices and other ways to retain information), test-taking tips, how to construct a study guide, and smart ways to use various resources for research projects. Other advice is more theoretical: strategies for maximizing study time, prioritizing information and tasks, staying motivated and self-confident, and managing stress. Each segment combines vignettes narrated by teen hosts (who have a sort of helpful big brother/sister vibe) with interview clips featuring younger teens, followed by a review/wrap-up. The solid accompanying materials expand on the video's content and offer activities for students to immediately apply what they've learned. Highly recommended. Editor's Choice. Aud: J, H, P. (E.
