“Lifting spirits and buttocks to new heights,” instructor Scott Cole shares a sense of humor along with his passion for the healing art of Tai Chi in the new series Discover Tai Chi. I watched the Weight Loss program, which demonstrated that by changing the tempo of the traditional Tai Chi movements, you could increase not just strength, muscle tone and flexibility, but also burn some serious fat. Our amiable host begins the workout with basic postures such as the Tai Chi Shake (a swinging arms/loosening up kind of exercise), the Golden Rooster, Brush Push, Parting Horse's Mane and Bow Stance before accelerating the pace into what Cole calls “full body participation,” moving not just with speed, but with focus and purpose. Cole's easy-to-follow routines, including one barefoot and shirtless on a beautiful exotic beach somewhere in Hawaii (no wonder he looks so zen), combine nicely paced instruction with lovely set design, making this an enjoyable, energy-restoring, weight loss workout.
