The orderly transition of power at the head of our government every four or eight years is one of the glories of the American democratic system. This is a video guide to the electoral process, from the beginnings of the American presidency, through the growth of the party system, to the hot button issues which will confront voters in the 1996 election. Topics covered include the division of government functions (executive, legislative, judicial), primaries, caucuses, the strange role of the electoral college, and the unique political circus known as the nominating convention, which climaxes with the November general election. The video examines the increasingly contentious and complex role of third parties, the media, special interest money, and lobbying. A study guide is included, but isn't necessary for viewing the program. Exceptionally clear, well organized, and up to date, this video will be very useful to school and public libraries. Highly recommended. (S. Rees)

This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
