Two different California gardens are shown here as examples of perennial gardenscapes: one is very English and romantic, the other much more rigidly clipped and contained to protect the plants from high winds. The tape includes fundamental information for beginners, including the definition of "perennial," and a quick but useful overview of Latin botanical names. Site selection, soil preparation, planting, propagating, and caring for perennials are all discussed; in fact, the only basic info which seems to be missing is advice on pest control. Individuals considering planting a perennial garden will enjoy the video "catalog" which shows perennials in alphabetical order, and an accompanying leaflet details the growing requirements and size of each plant. As with Larkspur's English Cottage and Country Gardens (VL-7/96), the production values are excellent. A good basic gardening tape, this is recommended where needed. Aud: P. (R. Reagan)
