Canadian-born instructor Bradley “Shooz” Rapier tells viewers “it's not about the move, it's the groove” in this loosely structured program that explores several hip hop-style dance moves. Fronting the dorky-named Los Angeles-based dance troupe The Groovaloos, Rapier and six of his crew members (with “hip” dancer monikers like Wicket, Lock-N-Key, and Rag Doll) strut around the sparse, street-like set, demonstrating simplified up-groove, up-rock and locking moves, such as the Apache, wrist rolls, Rock Shuffle, and points (in other words, pretty much the same ol' kicking, scooting, sliding, posing, and wiggling moves), with plenty of repetition, and helpful front and back views. A reasonably useful guide for folks wanting to boogie, the actual dancing isn't all that (my style is way hipper, fo shizzle), but the program's emphasis on enjoying yourself and taking a personal approach to getting down could well be an inspiration to wallflowers everywhere. A bonus seven-track audio CD is also included. A strong optional purchase. [Note: Groovin' with The Groovaloos, Vol. 2 is also available.] Aud: P. (J. Williams-Wood)
