When my friend Karin got married, she had eight bridesmaids (eight!), who took up every available seat at the beauty salon the day of the wedding as the beauticians twisted and pinned our hair into elaborate hairdos. If only one of my friends knew how to make a proper French braid, we could have saved hundreds of dollars. Hairdos: Tricks of the Trade is a wonderfully straightforward video filled with tips that will allow viewers to achieve near-salon-professional results. In addition to basic styling techniques, the program covers simple braids, French braids, reverse braids, French twists, homemade hair extensions, pin curls, wraps, knotted-up dos and more. On the first few styles, the video provides a graphic in the corner of the screen which highlights each hair section with a different color so you can clearly understand which strand goes where. As a final touch, our host Susan recommends accessories to finish styles off. Recommended. Aud: P. (J. Asala)

As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
