The first in a projected series produced by the American Medical Association and Milner-Fenwick, this fine introduction to controlling cholesterol outlines the dangers of elevated cholesterol levels (linked to heart disease) and takes viewers through a step-by-step overview of the options available for controlling cholesterol. Opening with a good animated graphic sequence which shows how cholesterol contributes to plague build-up on arterial walls, the program delivers the straight skinny on good vs. bad cholesterol, which fats to scrupulously avoid, how to shop for and cook healthy meals, the importance of exercise to reduce excess body fat (and thereby cholesterol levels) and the possibility of using medication to lower one's cholesterol. Although the cautionary note to cut back on eggs may be unnecessary in light of recent research which suggests it's the sausage links not the eggs that are raising cholesterol levels, the video is on-target everywhere else. An excellent, affordably priced guide. Highly recommended. Aud: P. (R. Pitman)
