While this how-to should be of great value to aspiring filmmakers facing the vast and often confusing world of film festivals, it unfortunately offers very little original information, let alone insider secrets. Hosted by Chris Arend, How to Get Your Film into Film Festivals! outlines the basic do's and don'ts in a YouTube-style webcam monologue, and includes interviews with the founder of the Tiburon International Film Festival and a couple of indie directors who enjoyed a degree of festival success (including this title's director, Sylvia Binsfeld). While this primer will be of some elementary educational value to neophytes who are clueless about how the circuit operates—creating a digital press kit and printing up promotional postcards are suggested as being par for the course—anyone who is even vaguely familiar with the subject will feel that it merely skims the surface. In addition, this guide gives viewers the impression that festivals are a mandatory rite of passage for independently produced features and shorts, whereas recent changes, especially in regard to online distribution and retailing, suggest otherwise. Still, considering the popular subject, this is a strong optional purchase. Aud: C, P. (P. Hall)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
