"The Video Professor" is a poorly drawn cartoon character with a fake-o German accent who leads a student through the intricacies of using Lotus 1-2-3. After the first 30 seconds of this, viewers will surely be bored to tears. The paradox is that there is nothing wrong with the information content at all. It's a beginner's treatment of Lotus that makes no factual errors (at least none we detected.) But the delivery is nothing short of horrible. Close-up screen shots show virtually illegible characters. Most of the video shows a keyboard with Lotus superimposed (not a bad idea, actually.) But references to the Lotus command line are marred by the unfortunate fact that they refer to areas of the CRT which have disappeared off the top of the television screen! They might be there, alright, but you have to take this on faith. The idea here is great, but like jokes delivered by the wrong person-it just doesn't work. Not recommended. (There are several titles in "The Video Professor" series.) (Michael Schuyler, Kitsap Regional Library, Bremerton, WA) (See CRACKDOWN 11 for availability.)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
