This short instructional video on the basics of skiing suffers from lack of focus. Opening with remarks about nighttime skiing, group skiing, and discount rates available at ski lodges for various times, we then shift to following a new skier as she learns the ropes on the slopes. First up is dry and comfortable clothing, ski accessories, and the necessities: good boots and skis. Suddenly, the "new" skier is gone, and instructor Jim Cottrell comes on to demonstrate to viewers how to get in and out of skis, starting/stopping, changing directions, etc. The tape concludes with a few tips on chairlift etiquette. Although the actual instruction by Cottrell on the slope is done well, not much time went into putting together this video. There are much better programs on the market, which take a more sequential, rather than scattershot, approach to instruction. Not a necessary purchase. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
