The first in a continuing series, this program profiles new inventors, taking viewers inside some of the latest inventions and discussing the process from idea to marketing. In addition to seeing the applications of new technology and innovative concepts, these programs bring inventors' success stories to the forefront, providing inspiration to fledgling inventors. In the first episode, host Paul Bernardo showcases Bill Russell's Flarecraft (an aircraft which flies up to 6 feet off the ground, and is therefore a perfect alternative to a boat for water transportation), the portable exercise water rower of John Duke, and the artistry of Bob Stayton's bronze sculptures. Russell discusses the needs that inspired his invention and how he built upon the ideas of Dr. Lipish, aircraft engineer and inventor. Duke talks about the market potential of his water flywheel, the patent process, and the value of having a business advisor. Stayton shows how the artist is really an inventor and explores copyright, the creative process, and the marketing/pricing of art. The technical qualities and program pacing are superb, and useful phone numbers as well as association and government addresses are provided for aspiring inventors. Hopefully, successive programs will be as well-produced and enlightening as this one, which helps to fill a void in video materials aimed at inventors. A good supplement to I've Got a Great Idea (VL-9/94). Highly recommended. (J. Scholtz)
