Narrated by 16-year-old Kelly Wiegand, who, by virtue of being a teenager, gives the program immediate credibility with the elementary school set, It's Cool to Be Kind covers the basics of pet care, offering tips on choosing the right pet for various situations, visiting local animal shelters to adopt a pet, keeping pets healthy and safe through annual visits to the vet and general maintenance, and handling pet emergencies. In addition, the program emphasizes the fact that violence toward animals is unacceptable, both on a small and large scale, aiming jabs at puppy mills, product testing on animals, and the use of animals for laboratory experiments. Short enough for younger attention spans and shot in the currently "cool" manner with lots of colorful, animated graphics featuring many lovable cats and dogs, this video offers a good, fundamental introduction to the subject of humane pet care.
