Whereas House Beautiful: Decorating With Slipcovers (VL-11/94) provided more inspiration than instruction, Learn To Make Slipcovers ain't much to look at--production-wise--but viewers will definitely learn how to make a slipcover. Your basic low-budget video, what makes this one work is instructor Claire Driscoll's expert instruction. No hemming or hawing (except for seam hems), Driscoll tells viewers what tools they need, briefly discusses fabrics, and then rolls up her sleeves and commences to measure, cut, and sew. The program also covers adding zippers and shares a number of good finishing tips. If viewers can get past the rough look of the video, the instruction is solid. Recommended, with the abovementioned reservations. (R. Pitman)

As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
