Takaro Sakai, dressed in a traditional kimono, demonstrates how to fold ten origami projects that range from easy to difficult. Voice-over instruction offers step-by-step directions and cultural awareness is heightened by Eastern-inspired music and views of finished projects in the Japanese Garden Society of Oregon. While the humor is definitely child-based, and the box says the tape is recommended for ages 7 and up, the tape is paced a little too quickly for children that young. Older children and parents, teachers, and Scout leaders will enjoy these projects and should be able to avoid too many "basketball folds" (wadding up the paper to throw it away!). When ordering, librarians will want to specify "video only" as opposed to the video kit which includes origami paper. Recommended. (R. Reagan)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
