What do you do when you see a hurrying mother trying to gather her child into the car, and get out of the school parking lot? Easy. You give that woman a six-pack. James C. Hearon, a librarian in Granite City, IL, is a man with a mission: to get more people to read. One of his ideas: the "hurrying mother six-pack"--six children's books in a bag, that the patron need only sign for and drive away. Another Hearon idea: lowering bucketfuls of books and magazines down to barge workers on the Mississippi. We can safely say that this type of behavior is not typical of traditional librarianship...and then clap like hell. This segment alone gets our vote for staff motivator of the year. In addition to the above, LVM has unique footage from a large Vietnamese film library that is currently being LC catalogued; LVM Executive Director Art Plotnik visits the library in Library, PA, and discovers that namesake alone can't guarantee that the library's doors will remain open; a look at the new PR program for librarians ("Ask a Professional. Ask Your Librarian."); and a lovely stop at the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis, for a look at a special collection. Highly recommended. (Available from: ALA Video, 50 E. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
