Filmed in September, 1993, this rather technical lecture by Nobel Prize winning scientist Dr. Linus Pauling (who died in 1994 at the age of 93) explores the primary causes of heart disease (which Pauling felt to be too little vitamin C), the role of the heretofore unknown lipoprotein-(a) in coronary heart disease, and how vitamin C in conjunction with lysine (an essential amino acid) can reverse atherosclerotic plaque formation. Pauling, a giant in the field of orthomolecular medicine, was well known for his recommendations of mega-doses of vitamin C for the prevention and treatment of many illnesses (a theory which remains controversial). Those who are well-versed on the subjects of cholesterol and atherosclerosis should be able to follow Pauling's arguments reasonably well; however, his comments about chemical changes at the molecular level will leave most viewers in the dust, comprehension-wise. Larger health collections might want to consider adding this, but the straight talking-head format, coupled with the daunting medical terminology, make this an optional purchase for most others. (R. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
